What is Pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact workout that brings a big focus to your entire core (yes, your abs but also your back and around your hips). Each move targets those midsection muscles, so you’ll feel each one at your center, but you’ll also work the rest of your body (the practice doesn’t focus on only one body part!). Pilates is also grounded in improving posture, moving with intention and mind-body awareness, as well as executing each exercise with control. You’ll move through full ranges of motion, as well as do pulses and isometric holds to target your muscles to the max. Get ready to feel the burn, build strength and stability, and increase your flexibility and mobility too! It’s all about getting centered.

What level of fitness do I need for these workouts?
Any fitness level! These workouts are welcome to anyone and everyone. Your TIU trainer, Amber Flowers, a certified Pilates instructor, leads you through the low-impact moves and offers modifications for those who need them. She’ll also offer some ways to progress the exercises. If you’re brand new to Pilates, check out Pilates Basics as your first workout and you’ll have the perfect introduction to the practice.
What equipment is needed for the program? Is there anything special required to participate?
You will need a set of dumbbells, ankle weights, and a yoga mat for these workouts. Otherwise, just bring your drive to break a sweat, babe! We’ll cover the rest.
How does Pilates differ from other workouts in the app?
Pilates is all about moving with intention and control, so the exercises incorporate a focus on your breath, while teaching you to move slowly. (A great way to kick up your stability!) You’ll find that makes it stand out from other TIU workouts, along with smaller movements and a big core concentration. In addition to those elements, Amber Flowers also brings her own flare to the practice, making it a fun way to switch up your workout routine.
Can I do these workouts if I’m pregnant?
We have so many options in the app for our soon-to-be and new mamas — we love the Tone It Up Pregnancy and Postnatal programs! Those workouts will give you everything you need to stay fit at every stage of your pregnancy and after.
