I heard from so many of you girls that you loved the conversation and wanted to hear more from Camila, so today we’re sharing a very special Q&A! Like our #TIUteam, Camilla’s Women of Today community uplifts and supports each other, and it’s so beautiful to see. Camilla shares more about the power of community, her personal health and wellness routine, and how she cares for her mental health at home during quarantine.

Q&A With Camila Alves McConaughey
You created Women of Today to celebrate women coming together in community. Why is this mission so important to you?
Camila: Women of Today is a community-based website designed where we can all learn from each other independently from gender, race, or colors...we are an international community! We are very inclusive, not excluding anyone, but that being said, the majority of our community is women. I have always said that if I can help women, and in any way make their lives a little easier, I will. It’s important to me that we take care of one another while also finding the time to take care of ourselves, and the WOT community can help do just that!
In your experience, how have you seen the power of community transform lives? Why is community connection more important than ever right now?
Camila: Community reminds us that we are all in this together and can learn from one another. We understand each others’ differences and learn from that! We can celebrate each others’ triumphs and lift each other up in hard times, and that is a transformative process in itself. We saw a great deal of our community changing lives during the pandemic and it was amazing to see the impact.
What is your personal fitness/wellness routine?
Camila: I believe that health/fitness is all about feeling strong and staying healthy. It’s not necessarily about how you look but how you feel! I’ve also been working on ways to incorporate my community with my personal fitness through my Instagram Live workouts. We’ve been doing 5 days a week with Margaret, everything from breathing, meditation, boxing, cardio, mobility!! The list goes on and on!
What is one thing you do every day to support your mental health?
Camila: It’s so important for me to practice stillness and set aside time for myself that supports that. Whether it is breathwork or any type of movement, I really use that time to decompress. If consistent, these things help quiet my mind during those busy days and it even helps me continue to create fresh and new ideas for Women of Today. Connecting to Mother Nature is another thing that is super important to me.
You have so many amazing recipes on your site and Instagram. What have you been loving to make at home in quarantine?
Camila: Well as you know many of us are trying to limit our visits to the grocery stores so when I do shop, I try to get things that have a longer shelf life and can freeze. I’ve been really into making my “No Mayo Coleslaw.” It is super inexpensive to make and a better-for-you version of coleslaw because it doesn’t have the mayo. My WOT family has also been loving it and has shared all their videos enjoying the recipe.
How are you making time to care for yourself in quarantine with balancing work, a family, and everything else going on?
Camila: Self-care is very important. Surprisingly, and I’ve said it many times, but I’m actually busier than I’ve ever been. I’ve really had to tell myself that it’s okay to take a break from all the uncertainty we’re experiencing to give myself a little extra love. Self-care helps me be present with my family, which is really what it’s all about at the end of the day.
